Highly sensitive

Perhaps you sense your surroundings, people, and nature in a very special way? Maybe you experience, when you enter a room, the atmosphere and can feel how each individual is feeling? But can you feel yourself, or do you feel like you're losing yourself?

We humans are very different, but what characterizes a person who is highly sensitive is that they can become overstimulated by impressions, situations, and environments that others may not necessarily notice. The nervous system takes in many impressions and processes them deeply for the highly sensitive person, such as noise, light, smells, and the moods of others.

It's particularly challenging if you grew up in a dysfunctional family where you were constantly on alert to sense the mood and adapt to the given situation. In such an upbringing, the entire system is overworked, especially for the highly sensitive person who may lose themselves.

Because the nervous system is often overworked in highly sensitive individuals, this can lead to stress or, in the worst case, depression if one is constantly overstimulated and does not stop and take care of oneself. It's important to learn to find a good balance between participating in life with all its aspects and withdrawing before crossing one's boundaries.

It's important that your relationships understand that you are highly sensitive and that you are accepted for who you are. It's important that you communicate to your loved ones how you experience the world so that you are met with understanding and empathy. Often, highly sensitive individuals can be met in a negative way, as if they are fragile, hypersensitive, and overly emotional. It can be very frustrating and hurtful to be met in this way.

I see being highly sensitive as a tremendous gift when one is at home within oneself and grounded. It's a way of being in the world where everything can be absorbed, felt, and sensed even on a very subtle level - being able to feel the pulse of life. It's like seeing the world through a whole palette of colors with all nuances.

I am highly sensitive myself and I use this sensitivity in relation to my clients. I can feel how each individual is feeling, and this resonance is comforting for the client. Being highly sensitive means that at times I need to withdraw and be with myself in peace. Here, nature is an indispensable source where I recharge and find my inner joy and balance.
